The first is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Lyman Frank Baum in 1900. It was originally banned in American colleges and libraries, accused of supporting negativism and witchcraft, and of showing human abilities as acquired rather than given by God.

The second is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1892. It was banned in the Soviet Union until 1940 for supposed “occultism”. Apparently, more than the book was due to the beliefs of his writer, immersed in the world of the paranormal.
